Helping Out After Ike

September 19, 2008 by admin

Dear PCC Family,

Greetings in the Name above every name!

I spoke this afternoon with Mrs. Chris Smith, who is the Red Cross Relief Coordinator at Bear Creek United Methodist Church.  They have 100+ hurricane victims they are sheltering and feeding.

I asked Chris if there are ways that members and friends of PCC might be able to assist in this relief effort.  She said that human power (volunteers) is their greatest need, in the following areas:

1.  Men over 21 years old to take a 4 hour shift on security between 10pm and 6am.

2.  Computer savvy folks who can help the evacuees (called “Clients” by Red Cross) to navigate the FEMA and Red Cross websites to access resources.  She recommends that those who would like to help this way spend some time familiarizing themselves with these websites before volunteering.

3.  People to help with Clothing Distribution.

If you would like to volunteer, please go to the Bear Creek United Methodist Church website, find their Red Cross volunteer application, print it, fill it out and bring it to the Bear Creek UMC.

We are called to be a blessings.   This is just one way we can.

Grace and peace,

Pastor Dave
